Weston Bowl Mill - Wooden Bowls
Found in a Vermont Country store back room by auctioneer Harold French. Seventy (or fewer) large and extra large wooden bowls turned by the Weston Bowl Mill were bid for by New Hampshire Bowl and Board and yes we raised our hand a few too many times!
Each of these bowls is a farm house style wooden bowls with a rim locals call "The Bean" or "The Weston", a labor intensive hand turned rim no longer produced. Working at piece work rates, brother Emmett and sister Erma finished rims for the Weston Bowl Mill from 1948 thru 1968 in Londonderry Vermont. No Weston turners could match the rates, quality, or maintain the attention to detail you will find on these old growth Maple Bowls. Sadly when Erma and Emmett retired, this unique Country rim was forgotten. The Weston Bowl Mill ceased operations in the fall of 1996. We're selling these bowls as a 5-piece set, which includes your choice of either a 12" or 15" serving bowl, with 4 matching individual serving bowls!Purchase Now »About the Weston Bowl MillSam Lloyd, a Weston Vermont Fixture and owner of the Weston Bowl Mill for thirty years. I moved up permanently in 1960, bought the Weston Bowl Mill, or as it was known then, the Vermont Wooden Bowl Corporation. Children were coming along, and the theater business in New York and the arrival of children did not seem to mix very well. I went into business with Paul Orton. I figured I might be in New York during the winter doing a play, and he would be here managing the business. What I did, of course, was to forget about New York. And so we were in partnership until he passed away in 1986. I sold the business three years ago, after operating it for 30 years. Lloyd has been a mainstay of Weston for decades, as proprietor of the Weston Bowl Mill, as a tireless volunteer, and as one of the more polished performers on the stage of the Weston Playhouse. He worked on Broadway before lending his talents to the Playhouse. Anyone who has seen him act has seen both the family and the dramatic resemblance to his more famous brother, Christopher Lloyd, who has appeared in "Back to the Future," "The Addams Family," and many other movies.
