Emergency Aid for Artisans: Our MISSION

Emergency Aide for Artisans

Helping American artisans make a living from the art and the craft of their hands.

For a lucky few, making a living through the creation of art, craft or small production work is possible. For most, the drive to create and be master of a craft is a precarious way of making a living. Through Emergency Aid to Artisans, you help American men and women attain independence and advance their business goals.

There are a number of practical ways we help:

  • Pre-purchase of material to complete projects;
  • Purchase of existing work product;
  • Recommendations for design; or
  • Sales and marketing assistance.

The Heart in Hand symbol used for the Emergency Aid to Artisans logo depicts both the open hand - long a symbol of peace and welcome , and by extension, the reach of the helping hand -- and the heart which is emblematic of the heartfelt effort of the artisan. Both are echoed by your helping heart and your extended hand. The Heart in Hand symbol is closely identified with the Shakers and the Amish, both known for the esthetic quality of every-day utilitarian objects.

About Gayle Kimball

A devoted fan of crafts, skilled basket-maker and dedicated gardener, Gayle makes her living as a professional fundraiser, attorney and independent consultant. With 30-years in the non-profit sector, she is gladly working to make a difference one-on-one for the American artisans getting left behind in the global economy. Social entrepeurship efforts like ours were born because the hformal lines between charity and business sometimes get in the way of making things happen for the people who need help the most. Doing good matters.

"Never doubt that the actions of a small group of committed citizens can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has." -Margaret Mead
